4. Irving Has History
Irving’s history is rich. Settlers first arrived in the area in the 1850s, but not till 1903 was the town of Irving founded by J.O. Schulze as well as Otis Brown. Later, in 1914, it was incorporated. Schulze and Brown made their living at the Chicago, Rock Island & Gulf Railway, getting to the area in 1902. They were responsible for surveying a railroad route that brought Fort Worth and Dallas together. They knew that the area would be the perfect site to establish a new town, which led them to the purchase of 80 acres. They acquired this from the Britain family that same year, 1902. The town was named after the author — Washington Irving.
